How to Make Un Ami is a “Mother & Daughter Passion Project” :

Meet Amy Warr (left), mother of two bilingual boys, passionate French educator, and entrepreneur. Amy’s journey is rooted in her desire to help families raise bilingual children, a mission she fulfills through her business, 123 Petits Pas Inc., offering fun virtual French parent-child programming.

Alongside her is Kristy Maan (right), Amy’s mother, who has raised four children and now enjoys the delights of grandparenthood with five grandchildren. Kristy’s nurturing spirit and love for children’s literature shine through in their co-authored book, “How to Make Un Ami.”

Together, Amy and Kristy hope to inspire readers to embrace diversity and view French learning as an exciting opportunity to forge new friendships.

Meet the inspiration behind “Elliott & Élodie” :

The illustrator, Lola Usupova, was provided the images of these two real life bilingual kiddos in order to bring the characters of Elliott & Élodie to life.

Left is Madame Amy’s eldest son, who speaks French as his first language. When he first saw the book, he asked “But maman, why do I speak English?” LOL! She explained that in order to help teach the reader French, he needed to speak English in the book. “Ahh, d’accord” he said.

Alongside him is one of Madame Amy’s star students of 123 Petits Pas, and inspiration behind Élodie. This photo is the very first time meeting in-person, yet it felt so natural as they had known each other for years via their virtual French classes. She speaks English as her first language but is doing wonderfully at her école francophone!

A Peek 👀 Into the Text:

"Excuse me, we speak English, can you tell us what you speak?"

"Nous parlons français", said the Dad of the little girl who squeaks.

"Hello, I am Elliott!"

"Bonjour, je suis Élodie!"

And this began the story of two wonderful amis.
