The Songs from Inside the Book
Press play and join in with the same songs Elliott and his classmates sing in the story.
Song One
The Bonjour Song
Elliott and his classmates begin the day by singing bonjour together. Sing along with Madame Amy and practise this cheerful French welcome song at home.
Song Two
Count from 1–10 in French
Practise counting from un to dix with Madame Amy through rhythm, repetition and movement.
Try this: read the matching part of the story first, pause to sing together and then continue reading. Repeating the songs between readings can help the French feel increasingly familiar.
📖 Read Along with Madame Amy
Follow along page by page as Madame Amy reads How to Have a Bonne Rentrée. Reading together helps children become more familiar with French pronunciation while building confidence before school begins.
One of my favourite ways to read this story with families...
Many families enjoy reading the book alongside the read-aloud the first few times. This lets you hear how the English and French flow and rhyme together, making it easier to follow along.
Before long, you'll likely find that both you and your child can enjoy the story confidently on your own.
Try this: Because the story rhymes, children can often predict the French word before it's said. Pause every now and then to see if your child can fill in the blank before I do. You might be surprised by how quickly they begin joining in!
Keep the French going
