This list of books is a fantastic way to start or expand your child’s French library. These books are interactive, engaging, and some are just plain silly! We encourage you to take a look, and hopefully you will find a book that you and your child will love to read over and over again.
Mon imagier series
These board books are a collection of brightly coloured images with the corresponding word next to it. As babies get older they will start to point to each picture as you read the words… "canard"… "camion"... They have a series of these books on all topics!
Où est mon…
These little books are full of fun textured pictures. They are a brilliant way of introducing new vocabulary. Each picture has a different texture and adjective describing it.
Mon Livre des visages
Babies and toddlers love looking at other children's faces. This book is full of different expressions and is a lovely way to start talking about emotions with your little one.
Je t'aime de la tête aux pieds
A beautiful book to let your little ones know just how much you love them! The toddlers in this story are happy and silly, sad or mad, but they are always loved from head to toe. There are more of these lovely books by Bernadette Roseetti-Shutak that are worth checking out too!
Une Patate a vélo (and all of Elise Gravel`s books!)
Simple stories, humour, and it's fun for adults reading to their children too! Other fun titles include Pas Moi, C'est moi qui decide and Le Pire livre du Monde
Mes émotions: avec une roue des émotions
This is a great book to help children recognize their emotions, and provides fun little activities (including a spinning emotion wheel!) to help calm them.
Ne Ferme Pas Les Yeux
Here’s the deal: if you can avoid getting to the end of the book, you can avoid bedtime. Trick is, each time you blink you have to turn the page. So whatever you do… don’t blink! A fun for all ages book!
J’ai besoin d’un câlin
A cute little porcupine wants a hug, but with her spikes will she get the cuddle she really needs? An adorable little story that is fun and easy to read. The author Aaron Blabey also has great books like Thelma la Licorne, Les Mechants, and Carlos le Carlin that you should check out too!
Pat le chat
All of the Pat le Chat books are super fun to read. They have a great variety of stories and rhymes!
Les aventures de Narval et Gélato
Join Narvel and Gelato as they discover the ocean together. A wonderfully, silly early graphic novel series containing three short stories; a great book about friendship, the benefits of working together and the power of one’s imagination! (Ages 5-9)
Bienvenue! Un livre sur l’inclusion
A warm, welcoming picture book that celebrates diversity, and gives encouragement and support to all kids, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Everyone is welcome no matter their race, religion or background.
Un jour, tu decouvriras…
There are many reasons to feel different. Maybe it's how you look or talk, or where you are from; maybe it's what you eat, or something just as random. It's not easy to take those first steps into a place where nobody really knows you yet, but somehow you do it… and it’s worth it!
Marilou Casse-Cou
Anna loves to climb the tree in her backyard, but she’s not always great at it. Up, up, up she goes but sometimes she needs some help in getting down.
Ne touche jamais un monstre
You must never touch a monster, except maybe the ones found in this book. This touch-and-feel book is a great interactive story with silly rhymes. Plus you can find other titles in this same series!
3,2,1… dodo!
Going to bed? That’s easy. Simply take 9 steps towards the bathroom,… 2 stories, and then 1 big jump into bed! This silly countdown will have everyone laughing, and practicing their numbers!
Les lions font-ils meuh?
"Do lions say moo?". Have fun answering “Non” to all the silly questions found in this book. A very interactive book with flaps and pulls to have you discovering the truth!
Ce livre ne fonctionne pas
"This book doesn't work". Ben and Bella are back for another (mis)adventure! In this story, the remote doesn’t seem to be working… at least not on the toy. As things go awry, the kids realize their book is out of control.
P’tit loup sauve la planète
Little wolf learns how to help save the planet by doing many things to take care of our environment. This book, as well as the many others in the P’tit Loup series, is an excellent little book with a great big lesson!
Although this book list may look long, honestly, there are many more we could have added! Hopefully this list will get you started on your way to creating your very own home French library, and/or give you some ideas on new titles to borrow form the library! Reading is a great way to bond and connect with your child, as well as develop and encourage language development. This winter, curl up together with a good book!
